‘Machete’ Star Danny Trejo to Be 2017 Roar on the Shore® Grand Marshal

ERIE – Film star Danny Trejo will lead the Roar on the Shore’s® Bringin’ in the Roar® Bike Parade as the charitable motorcycle rally’s 2017 grand marshal, organizers announced today.

The parade, sponsored by Erie Insurance, departs at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13, from Presque Isle Downs & Casino before arriving at The Hub in downtown Erie. Donation to ride in the parade is $20 per bike. A free autograph session with Trejo is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. that evening at the Off-Road Express Vendor Tent in The Hub. All media are invited to attend.

“With more than 5,000 bikers participating, the Bringin’ in the Roar® Bike Parade is our most highly anticipated and largest ride of the rally, and we are excited that Mr. Trejo will be leading it this year,” said Roar® spokeswoman Tammy Polanski. “He is not only one of the world’s most recognizable ‘tough guys’ on screen, but also a great example of someone who has worked hard to turn his life around. His road to success has been hard earned and anything but typical.”

Trejo has starred in dozens of films including “Desperado,” “Heat,” the “From Dusk Till Dawn” franchise, “Con Air,” “Once Upon A Time In Mexico,” the “Spy Kids” movies, “Grindhouse,” “Machete,” “Machete Kills,” “Dead In Tombstone,” and “Muppets Most Wanted.” His television work includes recurring roles on “Sons of Anarchy” and “King of the Hill,” and has appeared on episodes of “Modern Family” and “Breaking Bad” among others. Most recently, Trejo reunited with Robert Rodriguez for Season 2 of El Rey’s TV series “From Dusk Till Dawn.”

Trejo also regularly lends his voice to animated projects, including “Storks.” In the past, he partnered with producer Guillermo Del Toro on his Golden Globe-nominated animated film “The Book of Life” as the character Skeleton Luis, and he has regular roles on Netflix’s “The Adventures of Puss in Boots” and Nickelodeon’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Trejo also can be seen in a recent commercial for Sling TV and the Super Clio Award-winning Snickers commercial where he plays the blonde high school student, Marcia Brady. He recently wrapped shooting on the fourth installment of the “Death Race” series and joins Universal for the sequel to “Dead in Tombstone.”

The 11th annual Roar on the Shore® motorcycle rally — Erie’s official bike week — is set for July 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16, 2017, with proceeds benefiting the Mercy Center for Women. The Mercy Center for Women is a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy that provides safe and supportive transitional housing, education and counseling for homeless women in the region.
