Roar on the Shore™ Rumbles Back!

In 2007, the first annual Roar on the Shore™ motorcycle rally drew more than 10,000 people to the shores of Lake Erie. This year, we’re expecting that number to more than double, so make your plans now to attend Roar 2008!

Actor Peter Fonda led nearly 2,000 bikers down State Street in Erie during last year's event.

The Manufacturers’ Association and Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority annual Roar on the Shore™ motorcycle rally is held the third weekend in July in Erie, Pennsylvania. While downtown Erie serves as the hub of the rally, related events take place throughout the city and region. Most notably, two outdoor concerts featuring major artists will be held Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, at Liberty Park along Presque Isle Bay.

“We make every attempt to provide a wide variety of events and activities so that ROAR is enjoyed by everyone, including area residents and businesses who help roll out the welcome mat for visiting bikers and guests,” said rally spokesperson Tammy Polanski.

Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott

Roar on the Shore™ is a festive atmosphere in a beautiful waterfront town that goes out of its way to make bikers feel welcome,” Polanski added. “Many of the downtown streets are blocked off for motorcycle parking only. Mayor Joe Sinnott, a biker himself, wants to showcase how beautiful Erie is and how wonderful the people are. The city is really behind the success of this event.”

ROAR participants get to experience the best of the Great Lakes region. Eastern Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania and western New York are within a 45-mile ride and are connected by lakefront Route 5, which crosses all three states. From Geneva on the Lake through Erie’s spectacular bay front, Presque Isle State Park, on to North East’s wine country and Chautauqua Lake, New York, riders will see some of the most beautiful landscape this part of the country has to offer.

“We hope that bikers will begin to arrive days in advance of the rally so that they can experience spectacular scenic rides and visit our museums, playhouse, theaters, waterfront attractions, the beautiful beaches of Presque Isle, and of course the wonderful people,” said Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott.

Make your plans today to attend Roar on the Shore™ 2008!
