Roar on the Shore® Wins National Award From American Motorcyclist Association

ERIE – The Roar on the Shore® charitable motorcycle rally has won the American Motorcyclist Association’s (AMA) Recreational Road Riding Organizer of the Year award. The national award was presented to Roar® officials on Saturday, January 21, at the AMA Championship Banquet at the Hilton Downtown Columbus in Columbus, Ohio.

The annual AMA Championship Banquet recognizes hundreds of top competitors from across the country in disciplines ranging from dirt track racing to motocross to woods racing and everything in between. The AMA also recognizes AMA-chartered clubs and promoters that raised the bar for AMA-sanctioned activity in 2016. AMA members help select the winners of the competition categories with their votes.

Roar®, which is an AMA-sanctioned event, was nominated for the AMA’s 2016 Recreational Road Riding Organizer of the Year award, along with the Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania and the Midwest Motorcycle Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.

To date, the Manufacturer & Business Association and Roar® boards, which present the annual Roar® rally, along with more than 50 sponsors, have donated approximately $840,000 to charitable organizations, including the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie, local Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans and their families, SafeNet’s Big Backyard Children’s Garden, the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign, the Perry 200 Commemoration, the Boys & Girls Club of Erie, St. Patrick’s Haven, Erie Homes for Children and Adults’ Project First Step and, in 2016, the St. Martin Center New Playground Project.

Proceeds of the 2017 rally — Erie’s Official Bike Week set for July 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 — benefit the Mercy Center for Women. The Mercy Center for Women is a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy that provides safe and supportive transitional housing, education and counseling for homeless women in the region.
