'Miami Ink' Artist Ami James to Serve as Co-Grand Marshal of Bike Parade
ERIE — Officials of Roar
on the Shore™ have just been notified that Grand Marshal Peter Fonda
has regrettably canceled his appearance at the Roar on the Shore™ bike
rally, July 17-20, in Erie, Pa. Mr. Fonda, in a written statement,
expressed his deepest apologies for canceling at this late date.
However, his film schedule in Los Angeles has been extended through
July 18, and he is contractually obligated to the producers to continue
shooting key scenes through July 18.
“Please extend my apologies to everyone involved in this great
event, but such is the nature of a working film schedule,” said Fonda.
“I was looking forward to my visit to Erie and the opportunity to see
my friends and all the wonderful fans who show up each year. I will be
riding with you in spirit. Put me down for next year.”
Riding in Fonda’s place at the “Bringin’ in the Roar” bike parade on
Thursday, July 17, will be Ami James, who is best known as the co-owner
of the tattoo shop “Miami Ink” from the TLC series
of the same name. James fell in love with tattoos at a very young age
and got his first tattoo of a dragon when he was 15 years old. Five
years later, he started tattooing from his home. In 2005, James and
four of his friends opened their own tattoo shop in South Beach.
Gates open for parade parking at 1 p.m. at Presque Isle Downs &
Casino, located off Interstate 90 Exit 27 in Summit Township, featuring
live music, food and beverages starting at 1:30 p.m. At approximately 5
p.m., the bike parade, led by James and special guest Dee Snider of
Twisted Sister, will make its way north on Old French Road, north on
Route 505 (Perry Highway) to State Street straight into the Hub at
Perry Square.
The Perry Square hub will feature great food and merchandise vendors
as well as Rhett Rotten’s "Wall of Death" show, with free performances
throughout the event. In addition, the Perry Square main stage will
showcase musical acts like the Orange County Chopper Band, The
Nighthawks, Felix and the Hurricanes, Rick Magee and the Roadhouse
Rockers and Kellie Lynne among many more.
Roar on the Shore™ will also feature "Rock ’n’ Roar," a headline
concert with classic rockers Blue Öyster Cult, Saturday, July 19, at
the Liberty Park Amphitheater on Erie’s bayfront. The show will be
opened by the Robertson FMX extreme motorcycle stunt team.
All proceeds from Roar on the Shore™ benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie.
